Just picked up a very clean looking 79 Kawasaki KD125 2-stroke bike. Everything is straight on it, all original parts are in place and working as they should, not even tear in the seat or crack in the plastics. Good compression, great spark(was half expecting low or no spark, checked it last night and nice good blue spark).
Anyways I just got around to draining the old fuel in the tank today into a clean clear plastic container and it came out red, lots of crust in the tank. Currently soaking the tank right now. Pulled the carb, fuel lines and filter.
Right now I am stuck with the carb, the float bowl refuses to come off. I tried putting some WD-40 and carb cleaner around the edges off the gasket and tapping around all sides of the float bowl with bottom of a straight slot screw driver and light hammer taps on the top of the straight slot. Cannot get it to budge, I read somewhere online on a forum such as this to soak it in pine-sol, my budget is limited and I have some pine-sol handy. Is this a good tip?
Also thinking I should flush the old 2-stroke oil out of the oil injection system while I am at it, it looks good, has clear hoses and I can see its circulating properly, but I should probably flush it anyways while I am at it?
Any other tips someone could give me on going over this old bike before I attempt to fire it up would be greatly appreciated.
Already gone over the basics, the forks and rear shocks seem good, both sets of breaks work great, shifting good, clutch seems good, still gotta go over the crank case oil.
